In February 2020, we were celebrating 75 years of freedom at school. Therefore school held a theme week where students could work on all kinds of art projects with other students. I joined a group of audiovisual media students to make a short film about freedom. In this film we had to show it in some creative way. The results were amazing and well-thought.
The genre had to be drama/thriller, there had to be a granny smith in it and the phrase ‘Noem je dit nu vrijheid? (Do you call this freedom?)’ had to be said. It was up to us to creatively meet these requirements. Our title ended up being ‘Uitweg’, which means ‘Way Out’. My job was to do the additional VFX and music composition. While we were shooting the film, I was responsible for coming up with shots that were easy to put VFX in. I was not present at the second scene, as I was composing the orchestral piece with another student who has experience with music making. And finally, I made the title animation which is seen twice in this film.
